# How to Make a Scored Quiz That Grows Your Email List > Make a quiz with points, a pass mark and results by score, then turn every quiz taker who leaves an email into a tagged contact for your email follow-up. Canonical: https://vonza.net/blog/how-to-make-a-scored-quiz A scored quiz gives each answer points, adds them up and shows people a result. For a business, a quiz is also one of the friendliest ways to collect emails: people trade an email for a result they want to see, and you learn something about them along the way. This guide shows how to build one in Vonza Forms, from points and a pass mark to results and the email follow-up. ## Pick the kind of quiz Two kinds of quiz use scoring: - **A knowledge quiz** has right and wrong answers: a trivia night, a safety check, a skills test. People get a score and, if you like, see the right answers. - **A personality or "which one are you" quiz** has no wrong answers. Each option adds points towards a result, such as "Which coffee are you?" or "What kind of investor are you?". People get a result, not a grade. Both start the same way. Vonza has quiz templates for each: Which coffee are you?, Workplace safety check, Trivia night and Skills self-assessment, in the [form templates](https://vonza.net/form-templates) gallery. Or describe your quiz to Vonza AI and it writes the questions for you. ## Step 1: Turn on Quiz mode Open the form's settings and switch on **Quiz mode** ("Score answers and show results"). The settings then show how many scored questions the quiz has and how many points it adds up to. ## Step 2: Set the right answers and points On each choice question, tick the right option and set its points on the canvas. A question worth more can carry more points. For a personality quiz, give each option a score instead, so every answer moves people towards a result. ## Step 3: Choose what people see after submit - **Show the score after submit**: the thank-you screen shows the score. A preview in the settings shows the score screen as respondents will see it. - **Show the right answers**: people see which answers were right. - **Pass mark**: set a percentage (the default is 70%). The result then shows whether people passed. ## Step 4: Send people to a result by score For different results, use logic. Add a thank-you screen for each result (a form can have up to 10), then add a rule for each range: - When score is less than 5, then end the form on the "Getting started" screen. - When score is between 5 and 8, then end the form on the "Nearly there" screen. - Otherwise, end on the "Expert" screen. You can also recall the score in the text, so a screen can say "You scored 7 out of 10". The guide to [conditional logic in forms](https://vonza.net/blog/conditional-logic-forms) covers rules in more detail. ## Step 5: Ask for the email in the right place Add an email question. Where it goes matters: - **Before the result** (on the last page): people who want the result leave their email. Say what they get, such as "We'll send your full result and three tips for your type". - **On the first page**: you collect fewer emails, but you know who started. Make the quiz itself short and fun. Fewer, better questions keep people going to the end. Turning on **One question at a time** gives each question its own screen, which suits quizzes well. ## Step 6: Tag every lead and follow up In the form's settings, every respondent who leaves an email becomes a contact in your [CRM](https://vonza.net/crm). Existing contacts keep their details. Under **Tag them with**, add up to 10 tags, such as "quiz: coffee". Then build an [automation](https://vonza.net/automations) that starts when a contact fills the form, and use it to start an email sequence, add people to a list or enrol them in a course. Want the follow-up to match the result? Add a hidden field such as "result" and use a logic rule with **Set a value** to fill it in by score. The value is saved with every response, so you can see it in Responses, export it, or send it on with a webhook. ## Read the results Each response shows the answers with Correct and Incorrect marks. The analytics page shows views, starts, completion rate and the page where people leave, so you can see if one question loses people. ## Quizzes in courses are different If you teach on Vonza, course quizzes live inside your lessons and grade students as they learn. Read about [course quizzes and assignments](https://vonza.net/course-quizzes-and-assignments), or the guide to [online course quizzes](https://vonza.net/blog/online-course-quizzes). A form quiz is for marketing: anyone can take it from a link, a popup or an embed. ## Next steps See the [quiz maker](https://vonza.net/quiz-maker) page for everything a Vonza quiz can do, or [embed your quiz on your website](https://vonza.net/blog/embed-a-form-on-your-website) as a popup or slide-in. ## Frequently asked questions ### How do I add a score to a quiz? In Vonza Forms, switch on Quiz mode in the form's settings, then tick the right option on each choice question and set its points. The quiz adds up the points of every answer people get right. ### Can a quiz show different results for different scores? Yes. A logic rule can test the score and end the form on one of up to 10 thank-you screens, so a low, middle and high score each get their own result. The score itself can appear in the text. ### How do quiz takers join my email list? Add an email question. Everyone who leaves an email becomes a contact in your Vonza CRM, tagged with the tags you set for the quiz, and an automation can start an email sequence when they finish.
